Wow. What a surprise and honour. For once I’m lost for words…
I feel so proud that I am able to lend my voice and time to some incredible charity organisations and see first hand the difference they are making in people's lives, particularly children. I have met some wonderful people who work tirelessly to keep our kids safe, well, happy and loved.
The Australia Day Honours List shows that every Aussie has the chance to be recognised for their contribution to our country. From scientists to youth workers, community volunteers to the former head of the Army. Helping each other is an Aussie trait we're pretty proud of. We don't do it for thanks, we simply do it because we want to. And I'm proud that I can do my bit.
I got a bit teary when I told my kids that mum was among 800 people being recognised for making a difference. I hope they are proud of me. They certainly know I can’t do it without the love and support of both of them and my husband John.
I hope this recognition shines a light on all the volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to make a difference to so many charities around Australia.
