Sunrise has been around in several different formats, time slots and featuring a variety of hosts, but it wasn’t until 2002 that it came up with a formula that would ultimately lead to success. In 2002, Sunrise began its latest incarnation with Melissa Doyle and Chris Reason at the helm. Joining them for Finance related segments was David Koch - the same man who had co-hosted Sunrise from 1997-1999 with Melissa when it was a one hour news bulletin from 6am weekdays.

Sadly Chris Reason took seriously ill - something from which he is now thankfully fully recovered - and David was invited to co-host Sunrise with Melissa. At this time, a new, young and talented producer in Adam Boland was assigned to the low profile program.  Together, with a mix of humility, dagginess, honesty and a hitherto unseen level of normality on Australia television, Sunrise started to gain a loyal following. Sunrise charted its own course and in doing so, redefined the nature of breakfast television in Australia.
